3 Podcasts (Hosted by Women) That Will Teach, Inspire, and Encourage You in Your Business

“The wise by hearing them will advance in learning, the intelligent will gain sound guidance” (Proverbs 1:5).

If you’re growing your own business, or even just dreaming of becoming an entrepreneur, chances are that you’re in the midst of trying to learn many new things, sometimes all at once! From practical issues like building a website, project management, customer service, and financial planning to broader challenges like overcoming self-doubt, staying inspired, feeding your creativity, or even just not giving up, building a business can feel overwhelming.

Fortunately, we’re living in an information age, where basic internet access can give us an on-demand education. Unfortunately, there’s almost an unlimited amount of information available, which leaves most of us with major decision-paralysis. How do we know what’s useful?

While I love doing research and reading articles to build my business, I’m pretty particular about the podcasts I listen to. It’s easy to skim-read but hard to skim-listen! Here are three podcasts from successful female entrepreneurs that I’ve found helpful both in learning the practical nuts-and-bolts and in conquering the more intangible challenges that come with building a business. Each of these podcasts also offers free resources, webinars, and paid online courses to help you build or scale your work.

1. The Goal Digger Podcast

Goal Digger host Jenna Kutcher is a small-town midwestern girl and self-made millionaire. She left a corporate job at Target to become a wedding photographer, only to pivot again into becoming an online educator. Now, she offers online courses in areas like Instagram, Pinterest, and even podcasting.

Her own podcast aims to serve listeners who find themselves exactly where she was at the start of her own entrepreneurial journey. Episodes offer practical, workshop style advice for beginners as well as listeners who want to upscale their current model. Jenna’s tone is encouraging and “can-do.” Occasionally, she also takes time to share about her personal life, from fun topics like her transition to all-natural skin care products to more serious issues like miscarriage.

2. Marketing Made Easy

Marketing Made Easy host Amy Porterfield is the queen of online course development and marketing. When she took the plunge into self-employment, she discovered that she was building the wrong business. Years later, she’s harnessed the power of learning from mistakes.

If you want to know how to use Facebook ads well, the best way to offer a webinar, or how to identify your ideal customer, this podcast is for you. Her tone is that of a good teacher who will go step-by-step through a process with clear, actionable tasks for you to take away.

3. The Marie Forleo Podcast

This podcast is an audio version of the Marie TV Show, which aims “to help you create a business and a life you love.” The show covers a host of ideas, from practical business questions about customer service and finding a good mentor to more personal challenges like overcoming fear and being true to yourself.

Marie is a life coach who isn’t afraid to bring a lot of fun into her work: she’ll often insert a dance party mid-episode or bring out “Jersey Marie,” the tough-talking, accent-heavy version of herself. She also interviews experts in many areas of personal development and occasionally hosts a live call-in show to help entrepreneurs with their business woes.

From “what am I doing with my life?” to “why is my closet always a mess?,” she loves helping people sift through the tough questions by integrating the wisdom and truths of the Christian life with the best practices of human “self-help.” Kerri has both an MA and STL in theology and has taught at universities in the US and UK.
